Professor Richard Carey Smith
Medical Director
Richard is a specialist adult and paediatric Orthopaedic surgeon with specific expertise in orthopaedic oncology (primary and secondary bone and soft tissue tumours), hip and knee surgery (hip and knee primary and complex revision surgery) and osseointegration surgery.
Richard is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon with several peer reviewed publications covering a broad range of orthopaedics and science, he continues to present at national and international meetings and is active both in private practice and in the University Teaching Hospitals.
Richard undertook training in Vancouver Canada in the highly competitive University of British Columbia Arthroplasty Fellowship. He was awarded an AO Fellowship in Trauma at the Rocky Mountain Trauma Centre in Denver Colorado during this time. Richard also completed a Sports Knee Surgery Fellowship with Mr Tim Spalding at the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwick UK.
Richard undertook Subspecialty training in complex limb reconstruction and Orthopaedic Oncology in Perth with Professor David Wood in 2006. Richard returned to Perth in 2008 and assumed the role of Medical Director of PlusLife in 2012.
Richard is an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons Orthopaedic trainees, is heavily involved in many Orthopaedic and Sarcoma boards and is Orthopaedic Chair for the Australia and New Zealand Sarcoma Association (ANZSA).
