Living Donor Program
Patients undergoing hip replacement surgery can choose to donate the ball part of their hip joint (femoral head), which is removed and otherwise discarded as a routine part of the procedure. Your surgeon and the hospital will aid us in the donation process and assist in completion of all the required documentation.
Bone donation is voluntary and does not alter in any way how your surgery is performed. There is no age limit and no cost incurred by you.

Donated bone is mainly used for patients who may require bone tumour surgery, spinal surgery, hip revision surgery and a variety of general orthopaedic procedures which can greatly improve wellbeing and mobility for recipients.

When we receive a femoral head we discard the outer layers, such as cartilage which in most cases is damaged from wear and tear.
For our allografts we use the inner part of the femoral head bone which is undamaged.
Autograft is a bone and tissue graft that comes from your own body and an allograft is a bone and tissue graft that is donated from another person.
